Highway 91

here is my response to the first challenge: A pack of outlaws witness a murder. Apologies for the blurry video.

Obviously my "pack" is only one man but I think you'll get the jist.

On a trip through western texas flying to the coast
I drove down old highway 91, a bandit on the road

shadow moving slowly pushing into view
and heaven called out to stop the car seemed the christian thing to do

There were two gun shots in the back of his head
there was one more at his side
and it's hard to describe how it was to watch him die
on the side of Highway 91

my hands they started shaking clutching to the wheel
couldn't stop or even slow down couldn't even feel

you see my life belongs to the city penn my soul belongs to g-d
for crimes I swear I didn't commit or swear that I forgot

And it's been 10 long years since I held my sweet darling
and I got got long years on the run
it's a crime and a shame but I cannot take the blame
on the side of highway 91

I've lived the life of outlaws. I've lived the life of kings
I've stolen sacred secrets and lost some humble things

But a figure dying slowly gasping dust up from the road
will stay with me for a lifetime, I'll bear that solemn load

But I've got love and and the road and I hope g-d's on my side
and I will pray each night and day
it's a crime and a shame but I cannot take the blame
on the side of highway 91

This is awesome! I'm impressed that you wrote an actual, real-live song for this week's challenge. It sounds great! I love the classic country/folk structure, and I especially like the dusty imagery, like "dying slowly gasping dust up from the road" and "I've stolen sacred secrets and lost some humble things." Damn fine songwriting, missy! The only thing I'd suggest is changing "western Texas" to "west Texas" -- that's what we call it 'round these parts.
